PRESIDENT COMMENTS

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

This year our Club Championship will be held August 9 & 10, on Saturday and Sunday. If you only play one day, you won’t be eligible for prize money and there will be no special requests for tee times as this is a flighted tournament. All players only playing one day will have the later tee times each day. The following are the rules for the Club Championship:

The Club Championship is a two day tournament at two different courses, Murphy Creek and Meadow Hills, with prize money awarded for low gross and low net in each flight. Members must play both days to be eligible for prize money and must adhere to the following rules:

Since we are playing Murphy Creek Saturday, the rough is still pretty tough but playable, so to speed up play, if you think you might be in the thick rough, go ahead and hit a provisional ball from the tee or spot you hit into the rough. If you cannot find your ball, use your provisional ball and take your penalty shot and continue the hole. This will save you time from having to go back to the tee or spot you hit your last shot. Just remember declare your provisional ball to the group and keep up with the group in front of you.

GPS SERVICE FROM IMM GOLF

Corey White is from IMM Golf, a company located in Aurora, which provides handheld GPS rentals for tournaments and everyday play. Instead of having to purchase a Sky Caddie, for example, that costs upwards to $350; you can rent a GPS unit for a tournament or everyday play for $10/day. You can share the device with playing partners. You can reserve a GPS a week in advance by visiting their website at www.immgolf.com. An IMM representative will meet you at the golf course the day of your tournament and return to pick up the unit at the end of the day. If you have any questions regarding this service or would like to rent a GPS unit for a day, please visit the IMM Golf website.

CWGA TOURNAMENT

This year’s contest will be held at Glenmoor Country Club, September 29, which is a CWGA Club Championship Tournament. We’re looking for contestants and substitutes to represent the WWGL. The team must consist of one player from A (up to 12.0), B (10.0-20.0), C (18.0-28.0) and D (26.0-36.0) handicap range. We will form a team and pay for part of the $380 entry fee. If you are interested and available to play, please sign up on the sheet located in the League Box. We will randomly select the team closer to the CWGA sign up deadline, September 19.

POSTING SCORES

Many members are making errors on posting their scores as it relates to their Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) or adjusted score.  ESC sets a maximum number of strokes that a player can post on any hole and is based upon that player’s Course Handicap not the player's Handicap Index. When posting scores, your GHIN Handicap Index is not your Handicap at the course you are playing.  You can check your course handicap by entering your GHIN handicap index on the Course Handicap link on the home page of the course computer.  It just takes a second to pull up. In some cases your course handicap could be higher or lower and could change the number of strokes you are allowed to post.

For handicap purposes, a player is required to adjust hole scores (actual or most likely)
when these hole scores are higher than the player’s maximum ESC number.
There is no limit to the number of holes on which a player can adjust hole scores. A
player must adjust all scores for handicap purposes, including tournament scores.

Example: Player A has a Handicap Index 19.4 and plays at course X with a Slope
Rating of 120, which converts to a Course Handicap of 20. Player A’s maximum
ESC number is 8 for course X. However, if Player A plays at course Y with a Slope Rating of 100, A’s Course Handicap is 18. Player A’s maximum ESC number is 7 for course Y. You do not need to know slope; these are just examples of how each course could be a different handicap. Therefore check at the course on the computer when in doubt or consult a board member for assistance.

To Apply ESC:
• Scan the scorecard for any hole where a score is higher than the maximum ESC number.
• Reduce higher scores to the maximum ESC number for handicap posting purposes.
• Post the adjusted gross score.

Please remember to post your score before Tuesday NOON.
