WORKING WOMEN’S GOLF LEAGUE
return

MAY 2008

PRESIDENT’S COMMENTS

    • First off I want to welcome all our returning members and new members for starting off a great year of golf. Now if the weather will cooperate, we’ll all enjoy the golfing season better.
    • Since it’s the beginning of the season, I’d like to remind everyone to become familiar with the basic rules of golf and the local rules we gave everyone for each course. We want this to be a fun league, but we want to make sure everyone is playing by the rules of golf. If you are unsure about a situation, ask the players you are paired with, if there is still some disagreement, play two balls if more than one rule is applicable; i.e. lost ball or red stake hazard; having two scores for that hole and then ask a Board Member or staff in the Pro Shop for a ruling. Pat Barbee is the league’s rule chairperson this year.
    • Another problem we’ve had this year is slow play. It’s the responsibility of all members of a group to make sure you are not falling behind the group in front of you. If you are a hole behind, please pick-up the pace of play. That means play ready golf until you have caught up. It’s up to the entire foursome to pick up the pace. PLEASE read Ten Tips to Speed up Play under Golf Tips on the website. Even if you are a half a hole behind, if each group is that far behind, the last groups are waiting a long time. PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE OF OTHERS.
    • I’m representing the league on the Golf Advisory Board with 11 other volunteers for the City of Aurora. I attend a monthly meeting with the City of Aurora golfing staff. If there is anything you would like to see the City do or you have any problems with anything pertaining to the golf courses we play, let me know and I’ll voice your concern/questions.
    • Last but not least, if you have any problems or concerns about the league, please let me know before we get too far into the season. I can only fix what I know about, so please don’t wait until the end of the league to voice a concern or problem that arises.
    • Actually last is lets have the best season ever!!! May we all get most improved???!!!

WEBSITE

The website has been redesigned. The first time you log on you’ll need to type in www.wwglonline.com and then re-bookmark or add to favorites because the old bookmark doesn’t work. Please take a look at it, as it has all the information for the league. If you look at the Local Rules Booklet it takes a few minutes to load so don’t be surprised if it looks like it isn’t doing anything at first. It’s a very large file and the server we are using has a small line to transmit data from. Everything else comes in fast. Our webmaster will be making other changes as he gets the software to make it even easier to use. Stay tuned for more.

LOGO SHIRTS

This year we are offering league logo shirts for you to purchase. I will be turning in the order by June 1st so if you are interested in ordering one or both of them, please sign up on the envelope in the league box and leave your check by May 31st or email me with the information and send your check to Debra Shultz, Treasurer . The pictures are out on the website with the sizes and price information. You also have a choice of a red or black logo on each shirt.

MATCH PLAY

We were going to start match play this year, but it’s taking more time to get it set up, so we’ll start it next year. It looks like we have enough interest to include it in our league. Hope we will have even more interest next year once we get the rules out on the website. Stay tuned for next year.

PRIZE MONEY

Each week we play, you are eligible to win prize money. Once the results are done, a copy is sent to Aurora Hills Golf Course and they post it into the City’s computer. Once they post it you can start spending it for any items in any Pro Shop. It can’t be used for green fees, carts or range balls, but can be used for special orders made at any Pro Shop.

Tournament Sign-up deadline

Due to the 7-day advance reservations taken by the City of Aurora, it is VITAL that all

members sign up and prepay green fees no later than Monday prior to the play date. We are giving our best estimate of players to the courses prior to your deadline.

Tournament Cancellations

All WWGL dates are considered tournaments. We guarantee the city a certain number of players for each event. If the weather is inclement, we still play if the course is open. The Board will update the website if the tournament is cancelled and call early players, if possible. Please understand in Colorado the weather can be bad at your house but not at the course or visa versa. Should you decide not to play without the 24 hour notice, it is up to the course if green fees are returned. All unused checks will be in the league box, in an envelope marked ‘cancellations’. You can use your check for another time at that course or you can take it out. Any checks that are left in the envelope at the end of the league will be shredded.

Posting Scores

Scores for all tournaments must be posted by NOON the following Tuesday after tournament play. Cindy Christiano will run a posting report on Tuesday afternoon for Judy Russell to help expedite the tournament results. Golfers failing to post their score or their score was not recorded in the GHIN system by the deadline will be notified by email. Cindy will post these scores. DO NOT POST THOSE SCORES as this will cause them to be posted twice. Please make sure when you are posting at all other courses, except our home course, that you enter your GHIN number and name correctly. This will cause your score not to post to GHIN if your name and GHIN number don’t match.

PREMIER CARDS

Premier Cards may be used to pay for green fees at WWGL events. When you sign up, mark "PC" after your name and please provide Dorothy Hunter with your card number by email. On the day of play she will submit a list of players with their "PC" numbers to the respective golf course. The Pro Shop staff will need your card to debit your account and give you a receipt showing the balance on the card. Premier cards are worth $600, but cost $500 or $300 costing $250, and may be purchased at any Aurora golf course. Any family member may use the card for green fees, carts and range tokens at any time. There is no expiration date. Please make sure they have your name with your card number in the computer as this card is non refundable. You need to bring your card to the course and have it swiped at check-in each time we play.

CWGA Club Team Championship

This year’s contest will be held at Glenmoor Country Club, September 29. We’re looking for contestants and substitutes to represent the WWGL. The team must consist of one player from A (up to 12.0), B (10.0-20.0), C (18.0-28.0) and D (26.0-36.0) handicap range. We will form a team and pay for part of the $380 entry fee. If you are interested and available to play, please sign up on the sheet located in the League Box. We will randomly select the team closer to the CWGA sign up deadline, September 19.

Eisenhower-Evans Scholarship Program

The Scholarship Program provides full scholarships for girls and boys that have an interest in golf with two summers experience as a full time caddie or part-time caddie and golf employee, a need for financial assistance to attend college, a superior academic record and outstanding character. All the money stays in Colorado from the bag tag sales and accounts for over half the dollars used for these scholarships. If you would like to purchase one of these tax deductable bag tags, place your check, made out to CWGA for $10 for each tag, in the CWGA envelope in the league box. Your bag tag will be in an envelope with your name on it in the league box. If you haven’t received you bag tag, please check the league box or notify Debra Shultz.
